Sunday #8 was St Patrick’s Day. It was tacos and The Portland Flea and Sauvie Island and friends (this lady) and photos with pups who are preparing for departure and rain and a little bit of sun and deep breaths and loud and quiet.The view from Amy’s kitchen window.I think I take a photo of this every time I’m in Amy’s kitchen.This is what 12 year olds look like after a night of staying up till 3am watching Poltergeist and The Shining…These two… words do not suffice. Snow is so beautiful

I’ve really only been in the snow a small handful of times in my life, and every time I find myself in a winter wonderland of snow it always takes my breath away. I’m a bit of a snow wimp – the driving scares me, I’m a total klutz trying to move my body in it, and well, its very cold… but sakes alive, the BEAUTY! The peaceful beauty makes it all worth it.

We trekked up the mountain with our dear friends today and had a jolly good time. Thought I’d share some of the beauty and fun with YOU! xoxo

Picture Day

Just watched this little piece and it has me thinking… about how it matters to me that my portraits DO tell about who you are and how you feel, and about how I hope that my little family photo essays Do preserve little bits of memory that would otherwise be forgotten. Little details that we (hopefully) cherish in the present, captured to jog a sweet memory for your lifetime.

Oh you guys! I’m in the home stretch of the holiday busy season! I’ve had the pleasure of photographing so many beautiful families this year… witnessing their real love, making sweet little photo essays of their moments. I have SO MUCH to show you!!!

This is Zoe. Her name means LIFE, and she is full of it! This is just a little glimpse of the cuteness I got to capture in my time with her, her parents, and her grandma. Can you even get over those eyes???

Harvesty Fun on the Island

Yesterday we took our annual trip out to Sauvie Island Farms pumpkin patch for a little harvesty fun as the dark clouds were rolling in. Its such a lovely farm for us, especially on a weekday after school because it is sooooo MELLOW. Not a lot of crowds or overwhelming activities. Our visit got cut short by a little pants wetting accident, thus I’m a little short on photos of Sam, but you get the gist of the fun we had.

Zoë has come to a place where she really loves helping to care for her little brother. Its these sweet little moments when she says things like “Sam, let me button your coat for you” that pretty much melt me. It reassures me that if he needs help as an autistic adult, it will be second nature to her to keep a watchful eye out for him. The tricky part is to make sure she doesn’t feel overly responsible! Balance, my people… its tricky!!!Z is quite a photographer herself. I may have myself a protege! Here’s me being kooky. Sam is still feeling pretty cautious about Halloween, but I have to say that this year has been a million times easier than years prior! He has had much fewer moments of being frozen in utter terror… or maybe we’re just doing a stellar job of avoiding the more horrific visuals for him. ;o) He was super brave shaking this scarecrow’s hand and saying “hello”. No way would he have done that last year!I think Z MAY be coming out of her 4 or 5 year long phase of HATING being photographed!!! It is still inconsistent, but there are occasions when she’ll allow me to photograph her without begging or bribing. I’ll take it! She is my muse.

I hope you are all enjoying the season. It sure is getting cold here in the Pacific Northwest!!! Last night we all slept with our down comforters PLUS 2 quilts! Rob is pretty firm on not turn on the central heater until November 1st, but we may have to talk him into it a few days early!

the McDowners go a-pickin’

In our ongoing quest to get outside and enjoy the beautiful weather in nature, we decided to head west and scout apple orchards for a photo session I have coming up. We landed upon a beauty of a farm out in Sherwood Oregon, Sherwood Orchards, with gorgeous established trees and different varieties. Can’t wait to bake a pie for my Auntie Margo’s birthday this week!
